More industrial parks in the offing for Sarawak, assures Awang Tengah

 April 19, 2016, Tuesday

SEBUYAU: The government will build more industrial parks in areas outside Kuching such as Lundu, Betong, Sri Aman, Sebuyau, Marudi, Kapit, Bau and Sibu under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).

Industrial Development Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) specifically in Sebuyau, the government would open up a 20-hectare industrial zone at a cost of RM27 million.

“The cost for building Phase 1 will be RM11 million for five hectares. The Sebuyau Industrial Estate will be developed under the 11MP. This development is aimed at tackling the lack of industrial zones that support SME needs in small towns across the state,” he said at the launch of a seminar on ‘Capacity Building for SMEs’ at the district community hall yesterday.

Awang Tengah also called on the local business community, who are also voters, to rally their support behind Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for him to continue leading the state as chief minister.

“Stay united and reject any politics that come from outside Sarawak. Only BN (Barisan Nasional) government can improve the livelihood of Sarawakians. The state government, under Datuk Patinggi Adenan’s leadership, practices business-friendly policies to attract foreign investments.

“Moreover, we cannot deny the important roles of SMEs in the nation’s economy.

“The growth of SMEs is the result of cooperation between all the ministries and government agencies,” he said.

According to Awang Tengah, the state government has so far spent more than RM3 billion to develop more than 7,300 hectares of industrial land for SMEs
