KUCHING: PBB senior vice-president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan says Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg deserves to be deputy chief minister and hopes that the latter will eventually become the next chief minister.
“He deserves it, he deserves it,” he said.
When asked if Abang Johari could be the next chief minister, he quipped: “Well that is up to the Chief Minister, but he deserves the position, he deserves it.”
On the appointment of ministers and assistant ministers, Awang Tengah said the cabinet was now more focussed and specific.
“If you look at the portfolio for the assistant ministers for example, it is more specific and more focussed,” he told reporters during the Media Appreciation for the 11th state election at Waterfront Hotel here on Monday night.
Earlier in his speech, Awang Tengah said with the cabinet line-up finalised, it was time to live up to the promises made in their election manifesto.
“We must not forget the promises we made during our campaigns, we must walk the talk. It is time to take action.”
Meanwhile, to a question whether he was happy with his appointment, he replied: “Well at first I wanted to concentrate only on one ministry but somehow Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem still retained me to head two ministries.
“I will do my job to the best of my capacity,” he said.
Also present were State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohammad Asfia Awang Nassar, Assistant Minister of Rural Economy (Coastal Areas) and Fisheries Datuk Julaihi Narwawi and Assistant Minister of Resource Planning Datuk Naroden Majais.
