MIRI: Police have put a stop to a mobile illegal four-digit gambling operation in the sleepy town of Lawas, Limbang, with the arrest of a 32-year-old woman at a cafe on Saturday.

Lawas police chief, DSP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspect, a local woman from Kampung Long Lemutut in Ba'Kelalan, Lawas was arrested at 4pm.

He said the woman had been operating the illegal activity for two months, using coffeshops as her base.

"To avoid detection by police, she will move to new locations to take bets from punters, and we are looking for the mastermind behind the operation," he told Bernama when contacted yesterday.

"We have seized a Rego number printer, a betting slip with a four-digit number written on it and RM208 in cash," he said, adding the case was being investigated under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953. — Bernama
