MASwings resumes Miri-marudi flights after Twin-Otter incident

 August 29, 2016, Monday

MIRI: MASwings Sdn Bhd (MASwings) has resumed the Miri-Marudi flight operations following the reopening of the Marudi Short Take off and landing airport (Stolport) for operation yesterday.

MASwings said investigations were currently underway to ascertain the cause of Saturday’s incident and based on an early finding there was no damage found on Twin Otter aircraft that took off at the Marudi Stolport on Saturday.

“The aircraft has since been removed from the site. The airport is open for operation and MASwings will be engaging the aircraft manufacturer for recommendation before the aircraft is despatched for service,” it said in a statement here yesterday.

In the 3.50pm incident the aircraft carrying four passengers and two crew members on its way from Miri to Marudi skidded off the runway while landing at Marudi stolport but no one was injured prompting the closure of the stolport since Saturday.

For the record Sarawak has a total of 12 stolports managed by Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad (Malaysia Airport) with Marudi stolport being one of the busiest handling 34 flights per week. — Bernama
