During the meeting, Awang Tengah stressed that Petronas must ensure that preference is given to local Sarawak companies that have the capability and capacity to undertake the contract works.

He called on Petronas to advertise job vacancies in local newspapers and reminded Petronas to engage local talents whenever available.

The objectives of SOGC are to promote the state’s interests in O&G and to ensure maximum participation of Sarawakians in the O&G industry.

Awang Tengah emphasised on the importance of having a meaningful participation which should ultimately benefit the people of Sarawak instead of just winning contracts.

The SOGC members later made a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem at Wisma Bapa to brief him on current issues relating to oil and gas industry in Sarawak
