MARUDI: Newly appointed Marudi District Council (MDC) chairman Edward Mendai is very serious about the issue of town cleanliness.
He blamed the contractor for not clearing the blocked drains in Kampung Cina which were recently reported as filled with empy bottles, debris and vegetation.
Yesterday, he was accompanied by council secretary Petrick Linggi Taboh to inspect the drains in the village and see for himself how bad the conditions were.
He added he had called up the contractor so that action could be taken immediately.
“For the long term we many upgrade the drainage system in the village and elsewhere upon approval of funds from the state or federal government.
“I will ensure everything in the council’s jurisdiction is in order and that all development projects run smoothly and efficiently.
“We had a meeting this morning (yesterday). The contractor told us that their men are working on it (clearing the drains) now.”
