Expressing his compliments to the school for being the oldest educational institution in the town, Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said SMK Limbang played a major role in education and produced many model individuals of quality who contributed to the community’s development.

“SMK Limbang’s success is our success as well and we are proud of it being the centre of excellence where many intellectuals and model individuals of quality came from.

“They are the icons to the students and the younger generation,” he said at the SMK Limbang’s alumni charity dinner here on Saturday.

Among the prominent figures present that night were Assistant Minister for Welfare and Community Wellbeing Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Limbang District Officer Hamdiah Bakir and Limbang District Council chairman Sufian Mohat, who is also SMK Limbang Alumni Association chairman.

Awang Tengah said the education facilities in the school provided by the government had impacted the education system which contributed to its achievement.

“In the past, the schoolchildren had no choice but to study in a poor state without much facilities, but they still managed to go through the challenges and become useful citizens.”

Now, having been equipped with all the facilities needed, SMK Limbang had proven its capability in producing many smart students who could be the future leaders of the country, he noted.

Awang Tengah who was a student at the school in 1974, said the lack of facilities and amenities then did not dampen the students’ spirits and they did well in their studies.

In this context, he reminded parents that they should prioritise education as it could determine their children’s future.

He later announced a grant of RM50,000 for the school and RM30,000 for its Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

Guests were also entertained by songs presented by invited singers and dance performances by Raziman Sarbini.
